VTG strengthens wagon hire business in Poland

Hamburg, 1st December 2008.  From 1st January 2009, VTG Aktiengesellschaft (SCN: VTG999), one of the leading rail logistics and wagon hire companies in Europe, will strengthen its wagon hire business in Poland through a collaboration with Waggon Service Sp. z o.o. With this step, the Hamburg-based company expects to consolidate its market position in Poland even further. Seiji Kamide, the owner of the company with which VTG has collaborated to date, Millsharp Limited Sp. z o.o., will be retiring at the end of 2008 and with it ending his operations in Poland.

For the future, the plan is to develop not only the wagon hire business but also maintenance support for the wagons in Poland. In addition, the company will focus more on the market for chemical tank wagons and freight cars. “ In terms of rail freight traffic, according to a current study, the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure is expecting a 24 per cent increase in transportation services from some 50 billion ton kilometers in 2005 to 62 billion in 2010. We will participate in this growth by strengthening our presence in Poland”, says Dr. Heiko Fischer, CEO of VTG Aktiengesellschaft.

With this step, VTG is moving ahead with its international growth strategy.  “We are very pleased that we will work with such a successful partner as VTG in future”, says Małgorzata Smogorzewska, director of Waggon Service Sp. z o.o. “This means we can intensify our operations in our current area of freight transport services and expand these with wagon hire.”

Waggon Service Sp. z o.o. is a subsidiary of TRANSWAGGON, in which VTG Aktiengesellschaft has a 50 per cent share.
